The Chikka Ankandahalli Zilla Panchayat constituency is one of the backward constituencies in the district.

The backwardness is very striking as there is no hospital in the entire constituency comprising Hunkunda, Maavalli, Chikka Ankandahalli, Karahalli and Sulikunte Gram Panchayats.

Apart from the lack of basic amenities which has more or less become a permanent feature of many villages in the State, the heaps of garbage and filthy environment are other problems faced by the people of the region.

Substandard work

Most of the development work in the region has either  never been completed or of substandard quality. For example, the Harati-Maavalli road is ridden with potholes.

There are more numbers of constructed overhead tanks which have fallen into disuse than the one’s used for drinking water purpose. The construction of overhead tank at Nernahalli which was stopped six months ago, is yet to resume.

The overhead tank at Chalaganahalli constructed 2 to 3 years ago is yet to be given water connection. The condition of cisterns is no good either as most of them are empty.

Borewells

As many as six borewells were sunk in the Maavalli gram panchayat comprising 13 villages but to no avail as ground water had depleted drastically. However, borewells were sunk again by ZP at Aalaganahalli, Itaandahalli and Venugopalapura of which three are in use.

The region which has a large population of dalits has very poor basic amenities. Though Central government has sanctioned crores rupees under Huts Free village scheme, the funds are yet to reach as huts dominate the region.

Though, water is supplied by time it reaches the colony it is empty as most of the people store water in sumps. Similarly, the fair price shops though many, remain closed.

Developed areas

However, some regions in the constituency has witnessed some development under grants from Zilla Panchayat. Cement roads have been constructed at Kaamandahalli, Itaandahalli, Vaadandahalli, Venugopalapura and Nayakarahalli under zilla panchayat grants.

Grants have been used to build overhead tanks at Maavalli, Kaamandalli and Itaandahalli and government school buildings at Kaamandahalli, Vaadandahalli, Chalaganahalli, Maavalli and Venugopalapura. Also, road stretch between Aalaganahalli and Itaandahalli and Itaandahalli and Kavaranahalli have also been upgraded.

There is a genuine lack of interest among the elected representatives and people to improve the conditions.
