He was addressing a press conference at the office of the Superintendent of Police.
Guruprasad said that investigations were being conducted against four stevedores and 56 transport companies, with regard to the illegal export of iron ore. Separate probes were being conducted against each of the stevedores.

Details like the amount of ore exported by each of the stevedores, from whom they procured the ore and when the ore was exported, are being collected, the DGP said. The procedure involved was very  long and hence the probe was taking a long time, Guruprasad said.

District Superintendent of Police, Raman Gupta, had written to the State DGP, through the Western Range IGP, saying that the investigation into the illegal export of ore from Karwar port should be handed over to the CID. The CID would take up the investigation, after getting the necessary orders from the DGP, he said.

Guruprasad warned of action against those cultivating crops from which illegal drugs are made. He said that instances of such crops being grown in the plains of the state and smuggling them were on the rise. The Uttara Kannada police had got significant leads in the thorium leak case at the Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant and the probe would proceed based on this, he added.
