Muthanna hat-trick spurs MEG past HASC

Last Updated 17 December 2010, 16:58 IST

Najeemuddin started the goal-scoring spree as he hit the back of the net in the 10th minute to put HASC ahead. Just when the aircraftmen looked like gaining control of the game, Sappers’ Muthanna bulldozed his way hitting two goals in the 21st and 23rd minutes.
Jolted by the stunning counter-attack from MEG, HASC struggled to recover after that. Julious Herenz then capitalised on HASC’s erratic defence to net the third goal as MEG went into the break with a 3-1 cushion.

In the second half, MEG continued from where they had left, giving no breathing space for their rivals to recover. Attacking relentlessly, MEG brought up their fourth goal when an unmarked BP Poovanna latched on to a well-placed cross from Dominic in the 39th minute. The goal sank any hopes HASC had of making a comeback. MEG further rubbed salt into HASC’s wounds when PR Muthanna converted a penalty corner in the 65th minute to strike his third goal and make it 5-1.

The match saw three green cards being handed out to players from both sides. MEG’s KN Somaiah was greencarded in the 15th minute for pushing HASC’s Najeemuddin. In the 32nd minute HASC’s Lokaraju received the green card for obstruction. Dominic got the third for pushing.

Result: Super division: MEG: 5 (PR Muthanna 21st, 23rd, 65th, Julious Herenz 31st, BP Poovanna 39th) bt HASC: 1 (Najeemuddin 10th); HT: 3-1.
