Mock drill held at airport

Security personnel, Dog squad, fire force personnel and bomb detection and defusing squad rushed to the airport on getting the threat message about the 'bomb'.

The passenegers at the airport also panicked.

The threat message was received in the office of Kingfisher Airlines stating that a bomb, which had been planted in the Domestic Cargo area would explode at 3.45 pm. The Kingfisher staff immediately informed the CIAL authorities.

The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee was soon convened by Airport authorities. The employees, public and passengers were removed from the area which was immediately cordoned off. The Dog Squad was pressed into service. They spotted a packet of explosives which was shifted to isolated area.

The BDDS of State Police from Kalamassery rushed to the area. They defused the explosive which was only small cracker.

Airport Director A C K Nair later revealed that it was a mock drill. The procedure and performance to meet the threat was 'excellent', he said.
