Last Updated 18 December 2010, 16:57 IST

Speaking at the ESIC’s social security officers’ conclave here, the minister said corporation employees should aim to bring more working employees under its ambit.

Talking about the health coverage extended to insured persons under the scheme, Kharge said shortage of doctors in ESI hospitals would no longer be a problem as several medical colleges are being set up under the ESIC. The ESIC had recently changed the nomenclature of insurance inspectors to social security officers to make them more user-friendly and provide a friendly approach to employers. “With the change in the nomenclature, a lot of change is expected in the perception of the stakeholders and such change is also expected in the attitude of staff and officers of ESI scheme,” the Corporation said in a statement.

Also, the ESIC enhanced the rates of medical (maternity) bonus for insured persons and increased the slabs of standard sickness benefit rates besides raising the duration of unemployment allowance from six to 12 months.

It had also increased the wage ceiling limit for availing ESI benefits from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 and made the provision of amnesty schemes for withdrawal of court cases by employers and employees.
