The incident took place in Rohini last night when Sumit Jain was returning home from his office in Shiv Market.
Two unidentified men riding a motorcycle stopped him and opened fire when he tried to resist their robbery attempt, a senior police official said.
The robbers then fled with cash bag containing Rs 40 lakh. They also attacked Jain with stones.
A neighbour, who witnessed the incident, rushed to the scene and took him to Mahavir hospital from where he was shifted to Ganga Ram hospital.
A case has been registered.
