Veere Gowda, is the privileged voter. Till four months ago, the settlement of 35 families had two voters, but Nanjamma died, leaving Veere Gowda as the settlement’s sole holder of the right to exercise the vote.

The settlement has 35 families, but has been denied all basic necessities. Leave alone the right to vote, the 77 persons eligible to vote in the settlement have not even received the voter identity card.

Of course, the village has no polling booth and Veere Gowda will have to traverse through thick jungle for 15 km to vote at the booth located in Honnameti Estate.

All the families here have the PDS card. But barring Chikkanna, who receives the government pension for the physically-challenged, none of the senior citizens receive the pension for the aged.

Six of the families have no land ownership documents. The State Election Commission, which takes out huge ads in the media, propagating the universal right to vote, for some reason, has been blindsided on this one.
