Wholesale price of onion dropped from Rs 6,299 a quintal yesterday to Rs 5,200 per quintal today in Laslgaon, sources in NHRDF (National Horticultural Research and Development Foundation) said.

Likewise, rate of the vital produce fell by 14 per cent in Pimpalgaon from Rs 6,273 a quintal yesterday to Rs 5,411 a quintal today.

In Manmad the fall was by 33 per cent from Rs 5,573 a quintal to Rs 3,740 a quintal, while in Solapur by 18 per cent from Rs 7,000 a quintal to Rs 5,750 a quintal today, the sources added.

They attributed the price downfall mainly to the government decision to suspend export of onion till January 15 in the wake of skyrocketing prices of the onion across the country.
Though wholesale prices of onion have come down, it will take some time to have their impact on retail prices, traders said.
