Undabatti mishap: Van driver gets bail

He was arrested by Mysore South Police on December 20, five days after the mishap. He was produced before the Second Civil Judge JMFC Court on Tuesday, where he was granted bail. During interrogation, Chetan Kumar denied that he was drunk at the wheels and maintained that the vehicle developed a snag, thus leading to the mishap. However, he claimed that he rescued two to three people from drowning, but later decided to flee fearing people’s wrath.

A cop on condition of anonymity said, it would be difficult to prove the charges of drunk driving against Chetan Kumar as there is no medical report to support. Had he been arrested soon after the mishap, he could have been subjected to medical tests and the cops would have had a record.
