Centre promises telecom sector enough spectrum

Sibal, who met Telecom industry captains on Tuesday, told newsmen here that the Centre would take all steps to continue the robust growth of the telecom sector.

Sunil Mittal of Bharti, Anil Ambani of Reliance Communication and Ratan Tata of Tata Teleservices Limited were among those in the meeting with Sibal. The Union minister would also be meeting other players in the sector including Idea and Vodafone in a couple of days.

Sibal’s meeting with the telecom industry giants comes at a time when the sector is grappling with uncertainties with regard to spectrum allocation policies and a CBI probe into the decisions taken by the ministry between 2001 and 2008 that cost the exchequer Rs 1.76 crore.
