Opposition leader in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah, who was in the eye of storm of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa’s scathing attack on Friday, has retorted saying the State Government was employing all corrupt practices to grab majority seats in panchayat elections.

“The CM is determined to see that his party won majority seats by hook or crook.  Congress candidates across region and state are being lured to either join BJP or help the party win TP and ZP seats. Moreover, the voters are being bribed. Yeddyurappa is in fear of loosing his power after the panchayat polls.

He is ready to shell out any amount of money to grab power. Yeddyurappa paved way for a dangerous precedent where voters are turned corrupt,” Siddaramaiah said. Speaking to reporters at the Bishop’s House on Saturday, he said he refuted Yeddyurappa’s allegations that he made low remarks against Chief Minister and ruling party leaders in recent times.

The Chief Minister had no knowledge on political propriety and culture. I would never resort to undemocratic or unconstitutional language against anyone. It appears the CM is unaware of democratic language,” he ridiculed.

He also took a dig at the Government’s move to convene a special session from Jan 6 and said it would require more than six months to debate over the land scams and allotment irregularities of the Yeddyurappa government.

Referring to BJP candidate elected unopposed from Karya taluk panchayat seat, he said a man who was a cook(Siddalinga Swamy) for Yeddyurapa, now lures other party candidates, contesting in panchayat elections. If a cook could do it, imagine the wealth amassed by the cabinet ministers and the Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah questioned.

”The state’s finances is in a crumbling state. Yeddyurappa is not only responsible for erosion of political values, but has also destablished the State financially. I am ready for a discussion over the poor state of finances in any forum the CM wishes. The economists should also be invited for such a debate,” he said.

Siddaramaiah, who met the Bishop to wish happy Christmas set on his election campaign tour. He campaigned in Siddalingapura, Belavatha and other parts of the district on Saturday.
