The first half gave all indications that Central Excise were right on top of their game. Nilesh put Central Excise 1-0 ahead when he struck in the 16th minute after a well directed pass from Ajay Aiyappa.

Central Excise’ relentless attacking approach yielded the desired result four minutes to half-time.

Vivek netted a deflection off PA Aiyappa’s stick from the fourth penalty corner that they received in the 31st minute. Excise had their tails up going into half-time with a 2-0 lead.

CoE appeared more purposeful in their approach in the second half. Manikantha and Mohammad Yavar, who played a stellar role in CoE’s win against PCTC on Monday, created some good scoring opportunities for them. Chances unfortunately went abegging for the Kengeri-based outfit due to their own lapses upfront and the tight defence of Central Excise.

In the 50th minute, CoE got their third penalty corner and this time they found the target. Sampath wasted no time in converting the penalty-corner Excise’s Vivek and Nilesh were leading the sorties assisted by Anup and Ajay.

They were rewarded with a penalty-corner in the 53rd minute for their regular prowls but were denied a goal by CoE custodian Shan.  Central Excise inflicted the final punch in the 57th minute.
