Adarsh: Two officers refuse to resign

Last Updated 29 December 2010, 19:04 IST

The two officers are Ramanand Tiwari, currrently the State Information Commissioner, and Subhash Lala, a member of the State Human Rights Commission.

Tiwari was the urban development secretary in 2004 when he handled the file of Adarsh Society, originally meant for Kargil war heroes/widows and defence personnel but later grabbed by relatives of bureaucrats and politicians.

Lala was the principal secretary to the chief minister at that time, when the Adarsh file was cleared by the then chief minister Sushilkumar Shinde. Coincidently, like other bureaucracts who benefited from clearing the Adarsh file, Tiwari's son Onkar owns a flat in Adarsh Society, while Lala's family too owns a flat in the same building.

Chavan had asked the state chief secretary J P Dange to tell these two retired civil servants to resign.
