PUCL District President P B D’Sa said that the judgement of the Raipur Sessions Court sentencing Binayak Sen to life imprisonment appears to be politically inspired. “Sen is a committed human rights activist, who always denounced the State policies of uprooting Adivasis to hand over their land for multi-national companies. All evidence against Sen was purely fictitious and there are strong reasons to suspect that it was fabricated by the Chattisgarh police at the instance of the State government,” he charged.

“An unholy nexus including bureaucracy and the corporate sector rule the nation and exploit the poor. While few rich earn profit, the poor are being forced to bear the burden of loss. There are criminals inside the Legislative Assemblies in the nation. It is unfortunate that some religious leaders and media too have joined hands with the unholy nexus,” D’Sa criticised adding that corruption and nepotism rule the judiciary sector too.
