Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Raaga Sudha Rasa 2011-Series of music concerts jointly organised by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavana and Mani Krishnaswami Academy at Ravindra Kala Bhavan here on Sunday, she said that public must make it a point to support art forms like music for it enables us to get relief in our day to day life.

Appreciating the effort of organisers in arranging music concert for the Mangaloreans, she said that MCC is always ready to support art and cultural programmes which helps in enhancing the minds of the public.

Udayavani Bureau Chief Manohar Prasad stressed on the need for learning the appreciation of art forms which lacks in the general audience. Merely listening to music or viewing dance art is not sufficient, but the quality of audience is decided by how one enjoys and appreciates the art, he said.

Observing the increasing love of Mangaloreans towards music, Mani Krishnaswami Academy President Captain Ganesh Karnik noted that a positive change has taken place in Dakshina Kannada as far as music art is concerned. “From the past 10 years, there is huge encouragement given to music in the coastal district.

Several music concerts being arranged in the district every other day in itself reflects the love of coastal people towards music,” he said. Meanwhile, he stressed the need to add music and other art forms as a study subject in the school syllabus.

Karnataka Bank General Manager P Jayarama Hande released a calendar ‘Sapphires of the coast’ on the occasion. For the first time in the district, 12 top musicians from Dakshina Kannada have gained their place in each page of the calendar. The musicians including Kadri Gopalnath, Ustad Rafiq Khan and young performer Pavan have made their presence in the calendar.

Flute recital enthralls audience

The first day of the music concert series featured flute recital by Surmani Pravin Godkindi, accompanied by Vidwan Kiran Godkindi on Tabla. The concert that started with flute recital based on Marwa Tal Lalat Raga captivated the audience for more than an hour.

Appreciating the music lovers of Dakshina Kannada, Pravin Godkindi said that, though he was born in Gadag and lives in Bangalore, his concerts are performed more in number in Dakshina Kannada than any other places. Highest number of my music CDs are sold in this place and that is why I call Dakshina Kannada as my ‘Thavaru Mane,’ he lauded.
