Girl kills 'self' to live with her lover

Eighteen-year-old Sita Sahu, a resident of Gosaiganj area, about 30 km from here, with the help of her lover, strangled to death her friend Nidhi, set her body ablaze to prevent it from being identified and then left home leaving a suicide note a few days ago.

The two lovers also took away the personal belongings of Nidhi and threw them at a nearby nullah. The body of Nidhi was burnt beyond recognition.

The unsuspecting and grieving parents of Sita informed the police that their daughter had committed suicide for reasons unknown and consigned her mortal remains to flames.

On the day Sita “committed suicide,” Nidhi’s father lodged a report with the police that his daughter was missing.

Armed with the information about the friendship between Sita and Nidhi, the police launched a manhunt and to their utter surprise came to know that the former was very much alive and had been living with her lover on the outskirts of the city.

The couple was arrested on Thursday and the entire story came to light thereafter, police sources here said.

Crime story addict

Sita, who is addicted to novels based on crime stories, told the police during interrogation that she was angry with Nidhi as the latter had revealed about her affair to their teacher at the coaching institute, where they both studied, and to some other friends.

The coaching teacher Umesh had also scolded Sita over the affair and had asked her to concentrate on her studies. “I thought Nidhi could tell about our affair to my parents as well...I was scared,” she said.
