Kasturi Kannada Janapada Vedike activists and the farmers had planned a rally from Devanahalli to Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board office on Nrupatunga Road, condemning the land acquisition policy of the State government.

Police had refused them permission in view of the prohibitory orders clamped around the Vidhana Soudha for the ongoing Assembly session. As the rally began, police arrested the agitators and released them later.

The protesters said the State government was acquiring agricultural lands much against the wishes of the farmers, and then sold them to realtors instead of setting up industrial units.
The farmers threatened to intensify the protest if their demands were not met by the government.
