In August last year, Lakshmamma, a home-alone woman was smothered to death. The police arrested Lakshmamma’s husband Krishnamurthy and son Girish, as the victim’s daughter, son-in-law and a few neighbours suspected their involvement.

The police were unaware that Krishnamurthy and Girish were estranged from Lakshmamma, and arrested the two men under pressure from the victim’s other relatives. Charge sheets were filed against the two and were sentenced to jail.

However, the CCB stumbled upon the truth while investigating the triple murder case in Malleswaram, and arrested Manjunath (20), Mallikarjun (20), Karthik (20), Ravi Kiran (20), Arjun (20), Imran Pasha (19) and Sulaiman (22) in connection with the murder.

Murder for gain

Karthik, one of the accused, had rented a shop in a building owned by Lakshmamma. The gang he was part of found that Lakshmamma was wealthy and staying alone. On the pretext of renting another shop, the gang visited Lakshmamma and murdered her. They decamped with jewellery and other valuables.
