The giant pipe from Maharashtra, meant for MRPL, Mangalore had reached the town on December 14. Unable to take it further in the Shiradi Ghat-known for narrow road and hairpin bends, the 28-wheels truck carrying that pipe was stopped on the roadside.

On Friday, 100-wheels hydraulic truck was specially brought from Mumbai to shift the big pipe. Two cranes lifted the pipe and mounted it on the other truck.

The operation begun around 9 am and completed at around 2 pm. Hundreds of people gathered at the spot to witness the operation.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Kala Krishnaswamy, Inspector Ganesh and others were present at the spot and had made security arrangements.
