“Who will know this better than me... my husband has been suffering from many diseases like blood pressure, diabetes,” Asha Devi said while speaking to reporters in Banda.

“He is surviving on only one kidney,” she further claimed. Asha, who read from a prepared text, urged Chief Minister Mayawati to order a comprehensive medical test of his husband so that her claims could be verified and authenticated.

The seemingly semi-literate wife found it hard to pronounce tcad to be prompted by her son Mayank Dwivedi, who was beside her. She alleged that her husband’s political opponent had hatched a conspiracy against him.

Asha also claimed that the backward community girl, who was allegedly raped by the MLA, did not bear a good character. “Her character should be investigated,” she demanded.

“I will commit suicide if my family does not get justice,” she said demanding a thorough inquiry into the matter.

Earlier, the MLA had claimed that he was impotent and could not commit an offense like rape.  He had also offered to get himself medically examined by a panel of doctors to establish his claim.

The MLA is currently lodged in jail after being arrested on charges of raping the minor at his residence. His three associates, who also allegedly raped her, are also in jail.
