Case filed against Goa Sub-Inspector caught selling drugs

Last Updated 24 January 2011, 06:18 IST

Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the episode which came to light a few weeks ago, filed the case against Guddler, police said.

The FIR mentions Guddler and other persons, without identifying them. They have been booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Prevention of Corruption Act and IPC Section 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy).

Police spokesman Atmaram Deshpande said the case has been registered, but arrests would be made only after the investigations are over.

The FIR was apparently registered after civil rights activists led by Kashinath Shetye and Ketan Govekar approached the local court, stating the police were reluctant to act in the police-drug nexus case.

A petition filed before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) by the activists also names former Superintendent of Police Veenu Bansal, now posted in Arunachal Pradesh, and Home Minister Ravi Naik's son Roy, as being involved in the nexus.

Police officials, however, declined to disclose whether Bansal and Roy Naik are accused in the case.

Guddler, when posted in the Anti-Narcotic Cell, had arrested Driham in a narcotics case.
