Voters' Day today

The office of the Chief Electoral Officer has organised a programme to mark the occasion at Town Hall in Bangalore on Tuesday.

The Centre recently declared January 25 as national voters’ day to spread awareness on importance of citizens’ participation in the election process. Chief Electoral Officer C S Suranjana, on Monday, told reporters that programmes would be held at booth, taluk and state levels.

At booth level, newly-enrolled voters will be felicitated and they will be made to take a pledge to vote fearlessly and not yielding to considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement.

Besides, new voters will get electoral photo identity cards (EPIC) on the occasion. The state-level function will be held at Town Hall in Bangalore. Governor H R Bhardwaj, State Election Commissioner C R Chikkamath will be present.
