Prisons Minister A Narayanaswamy said he would soon send a list of 118 prisoners to Governor H R Bhardwaj, seeking his nod for their release.
Speaking to reporters, he said the Government had shortlisted the names of prisoners based on their behaviour and parole report. Besides, only those who have completed at least eight years of imprisonment and who are above 60 years of age are proposed to be released. The list will be sent to the Governor within a fortnight, he added.
The Governor had rejected the Government’s earlier proposal to release about 569 prisoners, citing lack of sufficient evidence.
