130 acres of paddy damaged in district

Union government has agreed to provide fertilisers in installments

Nearly 130 acres of paddy crop in Mulbagal taluk has been damaged owing to heavy rains and storm in the past one week in the district.

This has come to light after an inquiry was conducted by the Department of Agriculture.

In Duggasandra hobli of Mulbagal taluk 70 acres of paddy crop was destroyed, while 35 acres and 25 acres of paddy was damaged in Kasaba and Tayalur hoblis of the taluk respectively.

However, the officials in the Department of Agriculture have suggested that the Agriculture and Revenue department should conduct a joint inquiry into the crop loss.

The officials informed that generally by the month of May the district receives 34.9 mm of rain while this time ti received 42.3 mm of rainfall.

The rainfall in Bangarpet has been 34 mm, Kolar, 14 mm, Malur 16 mm, Mulbagal 19.2 mm and in Srinivaspur it is 9 mm. Moreover, the farmers are engaged in readying the land for the cultivation of ragi, paddy,  toor dal in the monsoon season, the officials added.

Sowing

There is  a need of 8,763 quintals of sowing seeds if the target of cultivating nearly 95,485 acres of land is to be met in the district in the monsoon season. However, at the moment the department has only 2,528 quintals of sowing seeds in stock. At the onset of monsoon sowing seeds will be distributed to the farmers in the district through the farmers’ contact centres, the officials informed.

Fertilisers

With the onset of the monsoon, the district will be requiring 39,500 metric tonne of fertilisers. The Central government has agreed upon to provide 31,231 metric tonne of fertilisers in stages to the State government.
