KGF mine workers to get Rs 14 crore service allowance

Last Updated 07 May 2009, 17:03 IST

The officers of Kolar Gold Mines have been ordered by the assistant labour officer (Hubli) of the Regulatory Authority to disburse Rs 14 crore of service allowance to the 2,150 gold mine workers in KGF.

Service allowance had  to be given to the gold mine workers after the closure of the gold mines in 2001. However, the amount was deposited only in 2007, after a delay of seven years. As a result , the service allowance had to be disbursed to the workers along with the interest amount, urged the Gold Mine Workers’ Associations.

The labour court after two long years of deliberations has ordered the administrative officers of the Kolar Gold Mines to pay the interest amount on the STBP-VRS to the labourers.

On Thursday, the labour organisations distributed the photocopies of the order passed by the labour court to 400 families. As per the labour court order, the service allowance has to be distributed to the workers within 30 days.
