Speaking at a review meeting here, he said “officials can discuss with me on the problems in utilising the funds. However, the funds released by the government should be utilised by March end.”

“If there was any problem in undertaking construction works, then I will personally visit the spot to inspect,” he added.

He sought details on the progress in work related to construction of buildings and the funds utilised by the departments within four days. The officials should discharge their duty honestly, he added.

Only 50 days are left out to utilise the funds released during 2010-11. There must be 100 per cent utilisation of funds. There is a need to accelerate the administration by holding preparatory meeting, said Zilla Panchayat CEO N Krishnappa.

There was allegation that the government doctors in Kodagu district do not reside in quarters. Instead, they keep travelling to Mysore and Mangalore, which affects the patients.

Reacting to it, DHO Dr Thimmaiah said that he has already issued a direction to all the doctors not to leave the headquarters.

The doctors have been asked to take a house for rent in those places where quarters were not available.  The meet also discussed on the poor enrolment of students to pre-metric hostels run by Social Welfare Department.

Social Welfare Officer Rajesh Gowda said “as the poor children are given mid-day meals and bicycles in government schools, the students residing nearby are not joining the hostels. Hence, the government is planning to close down hostels and start Morarji Desai Residential Schools.”

He said “Morarji Desai Residential Schools have registered good results. A proposal to set up post-metric hostel in Kushalnagar has been sent to the government,” he added. The Zilla Panchayat Vice-President Kaveri was absent to the meeting.
