Irate mob goes on the rampage

An irate mob threw stones and damaged the glass panes of a KSRTC bus which knocked down a person near Induval village of Mandya taluk on the busy Mysore-Bangalore Highway, on Thursday. The villagers also staged a snap strike and blocked the highway for some time.

The critically injured person, who was first taken to Mandya District Hospital from where he was shifted to a private hospital, succumbed to injuries. The deceased has been identified as Nanjegowda (44) of Induval village. The mishap occurred while he was crossing the highway when the bus which was coming to Mandya from Mysore dashed against him. Agitated over rash and negligent driving by the bus driver, local villagers threw stones and damaged the window panes. A few elders prevented the mob from setting fire to the bus.

Due to the impact of the mishap, Nanjegowda was dragged for about 50 mtrs from the accident spot. The driver fled the scene.

Demanding action against the driver, hundreds of villagers staged a snap stir and blocked the highway. On receipt of information, Deputy Superintendent of Police Dinesh, G N Nagesh and others reached the spot and made a futile bid to pacify them. As a result, the traffic on the highway was thrown out for more than 45 minutes.

Later, SP Koushalendra Kumar came to the spot with additional police force and allowed vehicles. Mandya Rural Police have registered a case.

Demand

Villagers have demanded that the family of deceased should be compensated besides installing speed controllers near villages.

Dies

In another incident, a person died on the spot when his vehicle dashed against another vehicle near Hebbal on Mysore-Bangalore highway on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Marilingappa (35) of Gollaradoddi village.He was going to Chennapatna in goods van from Mysore. Mandya Rural Police have registered a case and investigating.
