Terming lawyers as the social leaders, High Court Judge Subash B Adi said that 80 per cent of leaders are from law background and have a huge role in the development of the country.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a two-day ‘National corporate law moot competition’ organised jointly by JSS Law College and Surana and Surana International Attorneys, here on Saturday.

Justice Adi said that lawyers are striving continuously to improve economic, social and political situations in the country. He opined that lawyers should work towards providing justice to the common man.

Speaking about the law as a profession, Justice Adi said that earlier there was only scope for lawyers to just gain a degree and enter courts. However, with changing times they now have the ability to specialise in various subjects. They even have a chance to go abroad, he added.

Commenting on hundreds of law colleges sprouting in the State, Justice Adi said that many of them don’t even have a building of their own. It is necessary to provide good infrastructure and quality faculty in order to produce efficient lawyer, he added.

He urged administrative board members of private colleges to take necessary steps to improve infrastructure.

The competition witnessed the participation of 43 teams from various States.
District In-charge minister S A Ramdas, District Principal and Sessions Judge H P Sandesh, Surana and Surana International Attorneys’ Ravichandran, JSS Law College Principal K S Suresh, Prof Nagendramurthy, Keerthi Kiran and Alex were present.
