Live surgical workshop on phonosurgery from today

The department of otolaryngology - head and neck surgery of Kasturba Medical College (KMC) will organise a ‘National CME and live surgical workshop on phonosurgery and endoscopic sinus surgery’ at the IMA House in Attavar here from May 8 to 10.

Briefing mediapersons here on Thursday, organising secretary Prof Kishore Chandra Prasad said that for the first time a workshop on phonosurgery is being conducted in the region.

Eminent otolaryngology- head and neck surgeons from different parts of the country including Dr Anoop Raj from New Delhi, Dr Ashesh Bhumkar from Mumbai, Dr N D Zingade from Belgaum, Dr P M Nampoothiri from Calicut, Dr Joe Jacob from Kottayam, Dr H S Sathish from Bangalore and Dr Sathish Kumar Jain from Jaipur will be participating in the programme, he added.

The surgeries conducted at the operation theatres in Government Wenlock Hospital will be telecast live and delegates can watch the procedure sitting in the IMA  House, Prasad said adding that about 15 state-of-the-art live surgeries will be demonstrated to the delegates.

Patients will be benefited as expensive laser and endoscopic surgeries will be performed free of cost by renowned surgeons, he said adding that guest lectures, plenary sessions cadaveric dissections and poster presentation will also be organised as part of the programme.

The programme will be inaugurated by Association of Otolaryngologists of India president Dr Anoop Raj at the IMA House on May 8.

KMC Dean Dr Maj Gen (Ret) G Rajagopal and district surgeon Dr J Prabhudev will be the guests while Manipal University pro chancellor Dr H S Ballal will preside, Prasad informed.
