CET counselling to be advanced

Medical seat matrix for casual round to be secured in two days

With the Medical Council of India (MCI) permitting the approval of the six government medical colleges, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has geared up to advance the counselling schedule.

Casual vacancy round for medical seats will be advanced to July 20 as against the scheduled date of July 31, in the CET brochure. Confirming the new schedule, S Shankarnarayan, Executive Director, KEA said, “The KEA will receive the medical seat matrix  for the casual vacancy round in a day or two from the government. We are hoping to receive maximum number of medical seats for the benefit of students and the CET schedule particularly the casual vacancy round will be advanced.

Students apprehension

Therefore, the seat selection process of the casual vacancy round for the physically disabled, NCC and sports candidates will begin on July 20.” With the Medical Council of India delaying the approval of the six government medical colleges for the 2009 academic year, students were apprehensive about the exclusion of seats. However, the MCI notified the approval of the pending colleges recently, adding 600 medical seats to the seat matrix for the casual vacancy round.

Completing the process

On the ayurveda seats Shankarnarayan added, “A good number of ayurveda, homoeopathy and unani colleges have been approved and the seats will be added accordingly to the matrix. In a span of three days we are hoping to complete the casual vacancy round for medical seats.”

According to an official from the Department of Ayush, as many as 25 ayurveda, homoeopathy and unani colleges have been recognised and approved by Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM). More than 1,250 ayurveda seats will be added in the  casual vacancy round. “Another ten ayurveda colleges are expected to receive recognition shortly which will be subsequently added to the counselling process,” the official said.
