SC relief to State in contempt case

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan said the contempt proceedings have been stayed till July 24.

The contempt proceedings were initiated by the High Court against Primary and Secondary Education Principal Secretary R G Nadadur, Public Instruction Commissioner Kumara Nayak, Director Public Instructions (Primary Education) Mir Ubedulla and Deputy Director Public Instructions Chandraiah for not implementing the July 2008 High Court ruling.

Further hearing

The apex court will hear the petition filed by the State Government challenging the High Court order on the issue of medium of instruction on July 21.

Karnataka Government advocate Sanjay Hegde submitted that the contempt proceedings initiated by the High Court in the petition filed by Shubodaya Vidya Samsthe and Saraswathi Education Society should be stayed till the hearing of the main petition.

In the main petition, the State Government had sought a stay on the July 2, 2008, order of the Karnataka High Court.
