JOIN USThe current patriarch of the BJP has lost no time in expressing his “deep regrets” to Sonia after she wrote a letter to him denying that neither she nor her family had parked any money abroad as alleged by the BJP. A BJP Task Force report had alleged that Sonia had accounts in foreign banks.
In the backdrop of a high-pitched BJP campaign against corruption in the UPA-2, an anxious Congress president sought to clarify in writing her position on the sensitive issue. She sent a letter on February 15 to Advani saying none of her family members or herself have any offshore accounts.
Advani wrote back to Sonia soon after he returned from Kolkata on February 16, saying he was “happy” that she had denied reports relating to herself and her family “alluded to in the Task Force’s report on the black money.”
“If these had been denied earlier, the Task Force would have taken your denial into account. Even so I deeply regret the distress caused to you,” Advani said in a letter running into three paragraphs.
