The High Court has directed the Co-Operative societies to conduct elections after the election code of conduct for the Lok Sabha polls ceases.

Hearing a petition seeking directions to ensure a fresh notification to conduct elections for the societies, the division bench headed by Justice N Kumar has ruled that a fresh notification is not necessary and the co-operative societies can conduct elections without waiting for any notification.

It could be recalled that the State had issued a notification on 4 March, 2009 to defer the elections of Co-operative societies across the State in the wake of ensuing Lok Sabha polls.

Violation

The State government had cited the parliamentary elections and said that the scheduled elections by the co-operative societies will amount to a violation of code of conduct of elections and had ordered them to defer.
