Addressing the protestors, Karnataka State Guest Lecturers’ Federation’s Koppa convener Prakash said “the Government should pay a salary of Rs 20,000 per month as per the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines. However, we are paid only Rs 5,000 per month.

Moreover, we have not received the salary for the last 12 months. Inspite of bringing the matter to the notice of the elected representatives, no action has been initiated so far,” he alleged.

“When Aravinda Limbavali was the Higher Education Minister, he had stated that the guest lecturers were paid a sum of Rs 10,000 per month. The state government will be responsible if the students were affected by the protest,” he added.

He said the guest lecturers should be given service security and while appointing guest lecturers to 2011-12, the services of those who are already serving should be continued. The department concerned should write to the College Principal in this regard. Till the service of the guest lecturers are regularised, recruitment process should be stalled, he added.

He said “all those guest lecturers who have been serving from 2005 till date should be regularised as per the assurance given by the government.”

The protestors submitted a memorandum to the Higher Education Minister through the Tahsildar.
