Phase II of Bangalore Metro  –– six lines covering a distance of about 71 km –– has been approved in principle by the Government. For completion of Phase I of Metro, Rs 683 crore has been provided during 2011-12.

Two corridors

He pointed out that a detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared for the proposed mono rail or light rail transport system for two corridors in the City –– 31 km from Hebbal to  J P Nagar and nine-km peripheral ring road to toll gate along Magadi Road.

Pointing out that the comprehensive traffic and transportation plan for Bangalore has identified the need to take up commuter rail system within the City, the Government has finally taken interest in the commuter rail system from Bangalore to the suburbs.

Yeddyurappa said the Government had sought permission from the Ministry of Railways for the project with the state promising to contribute to the expenses.

If approved, Karnataka will undertake commuter rail service from Bangalore to Devanahalli, Anekal, Malur, Ramanagara, Nelamangala and beyond.
