Ramdev approaches SC against gay sex verdict

Last Updated 16 July 2009, 17:11 IST

S K Gupta Pijarawala, who is the spokesman of Swami Ramdev and his trusts Patanjali Yogapeeth Samsthan and Bharat Swabhiman Trust, said that decriminalisation of unnatural sex activities would lead to spreading of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases in the country.

“Because of the High Court ruling, homosexual activities, which will primarily spread HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, will put greater risk to public health,’’ said the petition that will come up for hearing on Monday along with the petition filed by astrologer Suresh Kumar Koshal.

Unnatural sex activities are against the ethos of Indian social system and would lead to criminal activities in the society, he said in the petition.

AIDS and HIV cases in India are eight times more prevalent in heterosexuals. “In this admitted position, permitting homosexuality will increase the risk of AIDS by more than eight times,’’ said the petition filed by Koshal, who is a freelance journalist with a Hindi news channel.

“The strings of personal liberty cannot be stretched so far so as to permit homosexuality, and if permissible, prostitution in India also deserves to be legalised… as that is also a consensus act of two adults in private place, besides it, (it) is also not an act against the order of man,’’ said the petition.
