Speaking to media persons here, he said public in Santhur, Yermal and Mudarangadi are suffering immensely due to the ash pond. UPCL is not following any scientific measures to make the ashes less harmful by releasing water into the pond. The methods adopted by the company are totally unscientific.

Primary Health Centre in Mudarangadi has reported many complaints from the public regarding astama and other breathing related problems. The impact has been experienced in about 50 kms radius. Farmers in Inna, Phalimaru, Padubidri, Nandikur, Uchila, Belapu, Admaru and Thenka are under distress as their crops have been massively affected by the ashes spread over in the region, he added.

Besides, contaminated water is being discharged affecting drinking water wells in this region.

If government and district-in-charge minister fail to take immediate actions against UPCL, obviously government’s inability will prove its involvement with the company, he alleged.
