A fancy dress competition arranged for grandparents was the cynosure at the  ‘Ajjanondige Hejje - Ajjiyondige Gejje’ programme held at the school premises.

Dressed colourfully, grandparents wore costumes depicting Onakke Obavva, Tipu Sultan, Durgasena, Krishnadevaraya, goddess Bhuvaneshwari and even Mohinattam dancers. Grandchildren watched their favourite grandparents taking the stage with characteristic aplomb.

Pillai and Jayashri couple took to the stage dressed as Mohinattam dancers, while Dharwad’s Thurgal couple wore dresses used in North Karnataka such as the Kacche Panche and Ilkal sarees.

Ramachandra and Shyamala donned the Malabar Muslim dress to spread the values of communal harmony among the children. More than 10 grandparents participated in the programme.

Even as the elders had resigned from the stage, their grandchildren set the stage on fire dancing to the tunes of both western and Kannada film music. Addressing the gathering senior journalist Patil Puttappa said that the country is blessed with more number of youngsters.

Describing children as the stars of the country, he said that they are not concerned about any caste or religious divide. Urging people to learn from them, Puttappa said that we need to emulate kids sometimes to have better values.
MLC Sandesh Nagaraj inaugurated the cultural programmes.

Journalist Krishna Vattam, litterateur Dr Prabhu Shankar, RIE Principal Dr Dorasami and Krishnakumari Lal were feted on the occasion.
