Elderly couple's murder case solved

Son and daughter-in-law killed them for property before fleeing

Jyothikumar and his wife Varalakshmi, both residents of SR Nagar, are the two arrested.
Jyothikumar is alleged to have fled with his wife after eliminating his parents - M Venkataswamy (75) and Lakshmamma (68) on the night of July 4. There was a dispute between Jyothikumar and his father over property. Venkataswamy, a retired armyman and former BTS driver, was pressing his son to vacate his house threatening to demolish the building, if the latter failed to comply. Venkataswamy was upset with his son for his bad habits. Jyothikumar, a driver with the BMTC, had reportedly availed loans from several persons. He was suspended from service three months ago on the charge of dereliction of duty, said the police.

Recently, Venkataswamy sold a BDA site worth Rs 90 lakh which was in the name of his wife. Jyothikumar used to quarrel with his father over the money obtained by selling the site. He hatched a conspiracy with his wife and executed the plan and fled, added the police.

Woman murdered in lodge

An unidentified woman aged around 25 years was found murdered at a lodge in Upparpet police limits on Thursday. A person, introducing himself as Chand Dev from Haryana had booked a room at around 3.30 pm at Surya Nest lodge. He had come with the woman and a child. He came out of the room with the child in the evening and informed the lodge staff that he would return soon after shopping, but did not return.
The room boys grew suspicious as the room was still locked on Friday morning. They opened the door and found the woman murdered, according to police.

The police suspected that the person, who accompanied the deceased, might have carried out the act. He seemed to have added some sedatives in the liquid food offered to his victim. Later, he strangulated and threw the body in the bathroom. Yellow colour powder was recovered near the body. which  has been sent for forensic laboratory, added the police..

Student ends life

Santhosh Kumar (17), committed suicide by hanging at his house in Rajajinagar,  as he was disappointed after failing in the  diploma examinations, said the Subramanyanagar police.
