With the second Pre-University exams fast approaching, students all over the City have hit the books with vigour.  The exams, scheduled to start from March 17, are a cause of immense stress for most students as they are termed as the ‘turning point’ in a student’s life.

The Department of Pre-University Education, with the aim of providing relief to students, has established a helpline to answer students’ queries and handle stress-related cases.

Metrolife asked the students of second PUC on how the preparation for the exams is taking shape and what they think of the services provided by the Department of Pre-University Education. Ashank A S from Jain College says, “I didn’t really study throughout the year, so I have loads to study now. My biggest problem is that I don’t know which chapters to give more importance to and how much time I need to allot for each chapter. If I was aware of the marks distribution per chapter, it would have become much more easier. The helpline is a great initiative but it should have started at least four months prior to the exams where even subject specific information should have been provided.”

In agreement with Ashank’s views, Deepthi N from KLE College says, “The helpline was definitely needed. I know many friends who think that it would be very hard to clear the second PUC exams and some of them talk about suicide. It will help such people, who are really stressed about the exams. However, I also think that it would have helped people more if it was started atleast one month prior to the exams. Now it is just too close to the exams and it’s difficult to change how a person thinks.”

There are also others like Rohan S from Deeksha College, who thinks that students are completely capable of handling the PUC exams.

“We know how to prepare. Why we need to talk to someone about it is beyond my comprehension. All one needs to do is be sincere and study, the results are bound to be good,” he added. A PU Department spokesperson informs, “We have been getting calls continuously from all parts of Karnataka. The most common type of query is stress related. Students are fearful that they won’t be able to remember what they have studied. Some of them are also scared that they won’t be able to finish the paper on time and ask for tips on time management. We also provide information about the documents that are needed for CET, on attendance and hall ticket related queries.”

Helpline Number

The helpline number is 1800-425-21234 (11 am to 1.30 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm). It will be operative till March 15.
