Addressing the gathering, DC Hemalatha said the stigma attached to the attitude in society against women still prevails in a much bigger way. There is a need for unity among women to fight the atrocities meted out against women. In the backdrop of trafficking and other sorts of violence against women, the celebrations for women should not be restricted only for a day. Everyday should be women’s day. As many as 99 per cent of girls are receiving education and nearly 99 per cent of women are engaged in one or the other jobs supporting their livelihood, she added.

Later, addressing the gathering at ‘Empower-2011’ organised by Power Platform of Women Entrepreneurs in association with Inner Wheel Club, Udupi, Lioness Club, Manipal and Lioness Club, Udupi at MGM College, she urged for the necessity of amendments of laws ensuring women-friendly atmosphere.
