Man held for molesting primary school girls

The accused Narasimha Nayak of Kuntangeradka, who had molested children of Kumble Government High School, was arrested by the Kumble police from Thokkottu with the help of the State police. A 12-year-old girl, school headmaster Subramanya Thantri and PTA President Sulaiman Karivellur had filed complaint against Nayak.

The incident came to light when a teacher found currencies of Rs 50 and Rs 100 with children of the primary school. Children explained the teacher about the harassment by the lottery agent, whom they call ‘Paiseyanna’. Immediately, the Child Line was alerted and complaints were filed to the District Collector and to the Superintendent of Police.

It was brought to light that more than 18 girls studying in various standards from 5 to 7 were sexually harassed by the accused.

The Youth League and the Muslim Students Federation held a protest blaming the police of not acting on time.

Policemen led by Kumble sub inspector caned journalists who reached the spot to report the incident. Based on the direction of the Inspector General, DySp T P Ranjith collected information from the journalists on the lathicharge. The District Working Journalists Association condemning the incident has urged the government to take action against the policemen.

Meanwhile, members of the DYFI, CITU and CPI(M) too held a protest in the town. As many as 25 protesters were arrested for holding protest without obtaining prior permission from the police.
