'Action plan to dispose off solid wastes in 8 Udupi villages ready'

Speaking after inaugurating ‘Nirmala grama puraskar’ award distribution programme here on Saturday, he said Udupi district has been given priority to cleanliness from the beginning. Udupi district banned scavenger system as early as 1972. However, it received Nairmalya grama award after 37 years.  The support of Gram Panchayats are essential to build a clean village. Elected representatives must work with devotion, he appealed.

Dr Acharya said that after Swarna river drinking water project, the water borne diseases have reduced in the district.  III Finance Commission Chairman A G Kodgi said Gram Panchayats have great responsibility of providing basic infrastructures. There is no shortage of funds to provide basic infrastructures.

Coastal Development Authority Chairman B Nagaraj Shetty said underground drainage system will be developed in 11 taluks of Udupi, DK, and Uttara Kannada.

‘Nirmala grama puraskar’
‘Nirmala grama puraskar’ awards have been distributed to 46 Gram Panchayats in the district. This include 20 GPs in Udupi taluk, 16 GPs in Kundapur taluk and 10 in Karkala taluk.
