A woman had kidnapped the newborn child of Shilpa, a resident of Kalavalahalli, on Saturday.

Accusing the staff at the hospital of negligence, the protesters blocked the main road in front of the hospital and demanded that stringent action be taken against the hospital staff.

They said the staff ‘are always ready to fleece the patients’ but do not show an iota of concern about the patients' well-being. If they had shown a little more of care, the staff could have prevented the crime.

The protesters accused the district surgeon of failing to perform his duties and provide immediate relief to the patients at the hospital. The police should recover the missing child immediately, they demanded.

The district surgeon Dr Khan, who arrived at the spot, spoke to the protesters. He informed them that the surgery inspector Ravindrarani, senior surgeon Incharasi and Neelamma had already been issued notices. The staff who are accountable for the crime would also be dealt with severely, he added.

Assured by his words, the protesters withdrew their dharna.
