CMC officials, police raid illegal abattoirs

The CMC officials and Basavanahalli police conducted a raid at several illegal abattoirs in the City limits and arrested five persons on Wednesday.

The raid was led by DySP Dr Vedamurthy and CMC Commissioner Krishnamurthy. They raided several places in Market road at a time and seized weights and measures, refrigerator and hooks used for hanging  meat. They also raided Uppalli, Tippunagara, Anjuman street and Sharif galli on the occasion. The CMC Commissioner had locked 18 illegal cow slaughtering units on Tuesday. In fact few houses had turned into illegal cow slaughtering units in the town. The police arrested Sikandar, Salman, Maula, Yathisham and Noor Ahammed who were engaged in illegal cow slaughtering in the town.

Vigilance team

A vigilance team with the CMC officials and police personnel have been constituted in Chikmagalur town to check illegal cow slaughtering units, said CMC Commissioner V H Krishnamurthy.

The vigilance team had raided more than 20 illegal abattoirs in the city and have locked them. The police have also seized about 150 kg beef, knife, weights and measures. The seized beef was disposed at the waste disposal unit on the outskirts of the city. He warned of registering criminal case against those who engage in illegal cow slaughtering in the town.
