JOIN US"There is no provision for constitution of a JLC, as being demanded by the opposition parties," Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu told the house today, even as MLAs of the main opposition Telugu Desam Party stalled the proceedings for the third successive day on the issue.
Babu alleged that TDP was only trying to politicise the issue. "You can't hold the house to ransom," he said. Officiating Speaker Nadendla Manohar endorsed the government's stand on the rule, and asked TDP MLAs what was the basis for their demand for JLC.
But TDP members insisted that there be a JLC to probe land deals since 2004, so the Speaker adjourned the proceedings till Monday, without any business being transacted today. Earlier in the morning, the government faced the heat of a combined opposition onslaught. Assurance by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy that government would make a statement in the Assembly on Monday on the land allotments, failed to satisfy the Telugu Desam Party.
TDP MLAs forced adjournment of the proceedings twice in the morning. As soon as the proceedings began today, TDP members trooped into the well of the house, holding placards and demanding JLC. The CPM and the CPI supported the demand.
