The recent bonhomie between the Congress and JD(S) seen in the Legislature session in taking on the ruling party has added credence to the two parties coming together in the electoral battlefield. JD(S) President H D Kumaraswamy was little more forthcoming on Sunday, than he was on the previous day, on such a tie-up.

“It’s for the Congress to realise the importance of the alliance,” Kumaraswamy told reporters.

No official word
In another part of the town, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President R V Desphande said that there was no official word from the JD(S). However, the Congress would make all efforts to ensure that the secular votes are not split to the advantage of the BJP.

A meeting of state party leaders and district presidents of the constituencies going to the by-polls, has been convened on Monday evening to discuss the preparations for the polls, the KPCC president  said.

Party observers for Kollegal, Govindarajnagar and Channapatna Assembly segments have filed their reports and the same would be discussed at Monday’s meeting, he said.
Meanwhile, the BJP on its part will hold its election committee meeting in Bangalore on Tuesday to shortlist candidates. The chief minister is also scheduled to hold a consultation meeting with party leaders on Monday evening. The candidature of C P Yogeshwara (Channapatna) and V Somanna (Govindarajnagar) is almost certain, sources added.
