In fact, the buses collided with the van simultaneously from behind as well as front. The deceased have been identified as Obala Narasimhaiah (58), Prahlada (27), Ramakka (43) and car driver Krishnappa (47). While Ramakka was killed on the spot, three others succumbed en route to the hospital. All the persons hailed from Kyathsandra in Tumkur.

According to the police, the family members left Kyathasandra  at 5 am for Dharmasthala on Sunday. The driver stopped the car at Periyashanthi as one of the family members wanted to attend nature’s call, when a Dharmasthala-Bangalore bus, in a bid to overtake another vehicle, collided head-on with the parked car. At the same moment, another Bangalore-Dharmasthala bus collided against the van from behind.

The impact of the mishap was such that localites and the police had tough time in extricating the bodies trapped inside the van. The injured — Neelamma (35), her daughters Kavyashree (18) and Divyashree (15), Neelamma’s sister Manjula (42) and her son Ganesh (6), are being treated in a hospital. As Sethuram (47), the head of the family, had gone to attend nature’s call, he escaped unhurt.

Except Ramakka and driver Krishnappa, all the eight belonged to the same family.
