The passengers, mostly holiday makers, had gathered at the Digha station to take the Duronto back home when they were told they could not board the train as the coach had not arrived from Howrah. Angry passengers contacted the station authorities, but they could not respond initially. The train, scheduled to leave at 3.35 pm was detained for about 35 minutes.
South Eastern Railway sources said the coach had not been attached as it was sent to ‘sick bay’ for repairs.
They said a replacement for the ‘sick’ coach could not be given as there are no spare rakes for Duronto.
