A Bench of Justices B Sudershan Reddy and S S Nijjar also asked the Centre and the petitioners to apprise the court about its possible composition by March 28, the next date of hearing.

“We are not talking about one case but many cases are involved in it. This is (a) much wider (issue),” the court said.“In principle, do you have any objection to setting up of SIT to look into the matter?” the Bench asked Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam specifically.

The court asked if the SIT could be constituted with officers from the CBI, Enforcement Directorate  (ED) and Income Tax department. “Before we discuss this issue, both of you (the government and the petitioners) tell us about possible composition of SIT, if the need arises, for setting up the same,” the court said.

Subramaniam, however, submitted that the investigation in the matter was going on under the direct monitoring of the ED chief and he must be given a fair chance.

Eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani and four others, including former bureaucrat Subhash Kashyap filed a PIL in the court seeking direction to bring black money to the tune of $1 trillion.
